This very well may be the start of a weekly blog series that I post on Sunday’s discussing my journey in “blogging,” if you can call it that. Because this is so spontaneous, this one will likely be much shorter than a normal posting of mine.
The weekly postings force consistency, which is something that I talked about in my first blog in this “series.” All of the research that I have done about blogging so far reinforces the importance of both consistency and having a specific niche. I have had trouble coming up with a specific niche for several reasons and this indecisiveness has led to a lack of consistency.
I totally understand how and why someone would want to blog about one specific area, but I feel like my interests change pretty regularly and I want the ability to be creative rather than constrained to one topic. I think I would have the most success writing about sports, but things such as game recaps or trade deadline previews are only relevant for short periods of time.
I want a large majority of the blogs that I post to be relevant for long periods of time, so that I hypothetically can eventually see my views exponentially increase, similar to how a savings account does through compound interest. I read a comment on a reddit thread a few weeks back (can’t find it now) about a person who has several thousand posts on his blog, but he only regularly profits on about 5 of them. In a way, if someone puts out enough moderately good articles, a few *may* turn into a lotto ticket.
I think what I need to do for at least the first three months is just focus on writing and publishing content. Just getting articles out there. I think that will eventually lead to me being much committed to the writing process and it will likely lead me to an area or areas of writing. My blog is already beginning to take form through the following categories: My Blogging Journey, Sports, Books, Healthcare, Lifestyle, and Education. I think eventually I would want to add one final category in the personal finance/investing/crypto space.
I really do like writing. I never used to, but I have really grown to like it in the past three years. I feel like I’m pretty good at it too. It is something that I could see myself doing for long periods of time. I am not trying to talk a lot about the idea of making money through blogging and SEO and such, but it truly is an intriguing idea. That’s not to say I ever expect to reach that point. But for me, 2022 is about taking action in all aspects of my life. For so long I have been saying that blogging would be a good idea for me and that I would be good for it and this is the year I’m going to begin trying. At age 24, I have so much of my professional and personal life ahead of me.
